Tech billionaire and X/Twitter impresario Elon Musk has once again sent the internet into a frenzy, this time not with a controversial tweet, but with what many are calling “facial hair that dares.” Musk debuted his new moustache during a surprise Spaces event, and viewers were quick to point out its uncanny resemblance to the infamous upper-lip shrubbery sported by Adolf Hitler.
However, Musk’s defenders insist the look is "completely misinterpreted." In a follow-up tweet that received 1.6 million likes and 3.2 million ironic replies, Adrian Dittmann clarified, “It’s not a Hitler moustache. It’s an homage to Charlie Chaplin, the OG meme lord. Read a book.”
While Musk’s fans defended the choice, arguing it’s “an avant-garde critique of cancel culture,” others were less convinced. “We’ve officially entered the ‘Elon Does Performance Art’ phase,” said one Twitter user, attaching a picture of Musk next to a Photoshopped Tesla with tiny moustaches on its headlights.
The moustache has also sparked heated philosophical debates. On a late-night news panel, one expert insisted, “A Hitler moustache isn’t inherently a Hitler moustache until you assign it that meaning. It’s all about context.” Meanwhile, another argued, “If you’ve got a rectangular patch of hair sitting directly in the center of your face, we’ve gone past Chaplin and into dictator territory.”
In response, Musk conducted a Twitter poll asking, “Do you like my new look?” with options “Yes,” “No,” and “Rebrand to Tesla-stache™?” Over 70% voted for the third option, leading to rumors that Tesla may soon launch a line of moustache-themed electric razors.
As always, Musk remains unbothered. “Innovation is misunderstood in its time,” he tweeted. “First they laugh at the moustache. Then they join it. Watch.”
His next move? Sources say he’s considering saying an n-word.
